This course runs over 2 weeks, with each weekly session lasting 1.5 hours, providing 3 hours of learning time. The sessions will run on Saturdays from 9am to 10.30am, on Saturday 11th May and Saturday 18th May. All Crafty Birds courses are held at Redborne Upper School, in Ampthill.
During the course, your child will learn:
To think logically-assembling fabrics and the cord mechanism for the strap
How to use a sewing machine to sew a straight stitch to construct a basic seam and a channel fastening
How to use the overlocker to finish the edge of fabric
The names of different tools and machines used in sewing
How to thread a sewing machine and solve common problems
AIMS AND OUTCOMES
By learning and applying all of these skills, your child will be able to make a useful drawstring bag in a colourful, printed, canvas type fabric of their choice, and a rope cord.
This is another Crafty Birds course that has been designed to introduce children to the skills they need to make and adapt their own clothes. It will allow them to start using the overlocker machine on easy straight edges, and continue to develop their ability to sew accurate seams. This will put them in a confident position to make clothes in later courses.
YOUR DESIGN CHOICES
The bag will made from a printed canvas type fabric. A wide variety of fabrics of different prints, colours and styles will be provided for you to choose from. If you would like to bring your own fabric, please ensure that it is a calico/canvas/duck/drill type fabric. It cannot be thick denim, slippery satin, or stretchy knit fabrics. Please ensure it is no smaller than 110x60cms.
